A New Life in Bullocky Hole
Starting over in a new place can bring unexpected experiences, especially when that place is the Australian Outback. Outback Constable Jack by Shirley Richards follows Jack as he begins a new chapter while working to serve the people of Bullocky Hole. His work involves solving crimes, helping locals, and finding people who have gone missing, but life in the community soon becomes much more than a job.
Jack becomes involved with the local secondary school, where he entertains children with original ditties, stories, and his personality. As he settles into the community, he finds himself helping people with problems both big and small. But while Jack is busy helping everyone else, he also begins looking for something of his own, a loyal dog and a good woman to share his life with.
Inspired by Life in the Outback
Shirley Richards is a retired Superintendent of Education who has traveled extensively through the Outback of Australia, particularly in the Barkly Region of the Northern Territory. During her time there, she worked with local police and other agencies to better understand the conditions, seasons, and workers living in the bush.
Richards used these experiences and her knowledge of the region to create Outback Constable Jack, her first novel. She now lives with her husband, Harlan, in Florida, while her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild live in Australia. She visits them as often as she can.
