Liber International Book Fair Liber Internacional de Libro

LIBER International Book Fair has become an important meeting place for the Spanish-language publishing world, bringing together publishers, authors, literary agents, booksellers, and other people working with books. The fair has grown into a place where people can discover new ideas, build connections, and look at the many changes happening in publishing. In 2025, LIBER welcomed 9,427 professional visitors from 50 nationalities and brought together 248 companies from 13 countries, showing just how far the fair has reached.

The fair is also valuable because it gives people in the book industry a chance to talk, learn, and find new opportunities. LIBER 2026 will return to Barcelona from September 29 to October 1, continuing its role as a major meeting point for the Spanish-language book industry and creating more chances for international business and connections.

Beyond the business side of the fair, LIBER is also about the stories and people that keep books moving around the world. It gives publishers a chance to introduce their books to new audiences and create connections that can continue long after the fair ends.

There is always a story worth bringing to a new place, and this time, I Heal You With My Hands by Robert J. Ackerman is one of those stories. Before we look closer at the book, let’s take a moment to see what makes this work and its author worth discovering.

A Life Full of Stories

Some authors write because they have always dreamed of becoming writers. Robert J. Ackerman’s story feels different. Before putting his experiences into I Heal You With My Hands, he lived through military service, community work, coaching, volunteering, and years of personal and spiritual questions. Born in South Dakota in 1947, Ackerman became a Vietnam veteran and went on to take on several roles in his community. The book itself identifies him as a former Director of the Pennington County Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Meade Street Halfway House, Western South Dakota Referees Association, Keystone Ambulance Service, and West Dakota Water Development Association. He also served as a Rockerville volunteer firefighter for seven years and coached a soccer team that won the South Dakota State Soccer Tournament.

His writing comes from the same place as those experiences. Instead of keeping the story focused on one part of his life, Ackerman moves through childhood memories, military service, family experiences, faith, spirituality, questions about the Bible, reincarnation, healing, and his concerns about the future of the planet. The book reads like someone sitting down and opening one memory after another, allowing the reader to see how different experiences shaped the way he looks at life. The book also records that he has spent 30 years researching climate change.

A Life Told Through Many Chapters

I Heal You With My Hands is a memoir that takes readers through Robert Ackerman’s life from childhood into his later years. The early chapters introduce his childhood in South Dakota, his family, school experiences, friendships, and the many events that stayed with him as he grew older. He also shares stories involving his father’s restaurant and his unexpected encounters with Hollywood figures while movies were being filmed in the area, including Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda, and George Peppard. The book does not try to make his younger years look perfect. Instead, it includes mistakes, difficult moments, family struggles, and lessons that came from living through them.

As the story moves forward, Ackerman writes about his time in the Air Force and his experiences connected to Vietnam. He describes working with C-130 aircraft, traveling through Okinawa and Thailand, flying missions, dealing with dangerous situations, and witnessing the realities of war. Other parts of the book move into soccer, community service, alcohol recovery, family loss, mental health, and the people who influenced his life. His work with the Drug and Alcohol Task Force, ambulance service, soccer teams, and the Salvation Army becomes part of the larger story of a man who kept finding ways to serve others.

The later chapters take the book into more personal and spiritual territory. Ackerman discusses an experience he says happened in 1969, when he believed God gave him a message connected to healing with his hands. From there, the book explores his studies of Edgar Cayce, reincarnation, God, Jesus, the Bible, the idea of oneness, and his views about humanity and the natural world. He also turns his attention to climate change, plastic pollution, overpopulation, and what he sees as a possible future for the planet. Whatever readers may think about his beliefs, the book clearly comes from a lifetime of experiences and questions that Ackerman has spent years trying to understand and put into words.

A Story Ready to Travel

A book built from one person’s life can still speak to readers far beyond its original setting. I Heal You With My Hands brings together memories of youth, military service, community work, faith, loss, healing, and questions about where humanity is going. For readers who enjoy personal stories that move into bigger questions about life and the world around us, this is a book worth taking a closer look at.
