L. Penistan was born and raised near the foothills of the Adirondacks in historic Johnstown, New York. Her parents helped develop her early love for nature, wildlife, and the outdoors, interests that grew into hobbies such as camping, hiking, and nature photography. She has also successfully operated a mail order skin care company from her home for the past 30 years.
With The Dragonstones of Acarnania, Penistan created an alternate world where characters who are different from one another can grow and learn together. Her story reflects her belief that society can become intolerant toward those who are unique, while showing how differences can also become part of what brings people together.
