The Habits Behind a Lasting Love
What does it take for a marriage to last 65 years? Is it love, loyalty, good communication, or simply finding the right person? In How To Live Forever: 12 Vows and Habits to Live By: Happily, Forever After, Jerry L. Rhoads, alongside his wife Shari, shares the lessons they learned from a lifetime together. Their story goes beyond romance and looks at the daily habits, choices, and commitments that helped shape their relationship.
What makes this book different from other relationship guides is its personal approach. Instead of only giving advice, it draws from the couple’s own experiences, including their marriage, family life, careers, and views on healthy living. Through twelve vows and habits, the book encourages readers to think about how they treat their partners, manage their lives, and build a relationship that can stand the test of time.

Twelve Vows for a Stronger Relationship
One of the main ideas in How To Live Forever is that a lasting marriage takes more than feelings alone. Love needs effort, loyalty, understanding, and a willingness to grow together. Through the twelve vows and habits, Jerry and Shari share their perspective on keeping a relationship meaningful while making room for romance, family, fun, and personal goals.
The book also connects marriage with everyday lifestyle choices. Its chapters discuss topics such as staying active, finding purpose, managing money, enjoying time together, and maintaining a satisfying love life. The message is that small, consistent habits can influence how couples handle stress, communicate, and support one another. Readers are encouraged to reflect on their own routines and consider which changes could help strengthen their relationships.
Another meaningful part of the book is its use of poetry, personal memories, and practical advice. These elements give readers a closer look at the couple’s experiences and the values they believe helped sustain their marriage. While their approach reflects their own beliefs and may not fit every relationship, it offers plenty to think about for anyone interested in commitment, companionship, and building a life with someone. The book ultimately encourages readers to treat love as something they continue to nurture, rather than something that simply takes care of itself.
