A Lifetime of Compassion in Action

Every career leaves behind stories, but only a few have the power to inspire, educate, and remind us of the difference one person can make. In Stories from my Occupational Therapy Career, Margret Kingrey opens the door to four decades of meaningful work, sharing the experiences that shaped her life while helping others regain independence, confidence, and hope. Whether you’re familiar with occupational therapy or discovering it for the first time, this book offers a heartfelt look into a profession dedicated to improving lives.

What makes this memoir stand out is its blend of real-life experiences, practical insight, and genuine compassion. Rather than simply recounting professional milestones, Margret Kingrey highlights the human side of healthcare, showing how patience, creativity, and understanding can transform challenges into life-changing victories. Readers who enjoy memoirs, healthcare stories, and inspiring true experiences will find plenty to appreciate in these pages.

At this stage of my life, I dropped clinical work. Instead, I concentrated on teaching and taking classes. I felt that I was beginning a new career at the age of sixty-three. Upon returning to Towson, I was met in the hall one day by a former professor from the University of Puget Sound! He had been on the faculty there when I was a student.

Lessons Beyond the Clinic

Throughout the book, readers travel alongside Margret as she works with patients from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and age groups across the United States. From the Alaskan Arctic Circle to communities throughout the Midwest and Southwest, each chapter reveals how occupational therapy extends far beyond treatment plans. It is about listening, adapting, encouraging, and helping people rediscover what they are capable of achieving.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is the way it celebrates resilience. The individuals Margret meets each face unique obstacles, yet their determination, combined with thoughtful therapeutic care, creates moments of remarkable progress. These stories demonstrate that healing is often built through small victories that eventually lead to lasting change.

More than a professional memoir, Stories from my Occupational Therapy Career reminds readers that learning never truly ends. Whether entering a new stage of life, embracing fresh opportunities, or continuing to grow in one’s profession, the book encourages readers to remain curious, compassionate, and open to new experiences. It is an uplifting testament to the lasting impact of service and dedication.
