New Orleans is my city. I grew up just a few miles from the French Quarter and treasured every moment spent wandering its vibrant streets. In the 1980s, while working on my book Tales of the Big Easy at a small restaurant on Chartres Street, I had a brief, unforgettable encounter with Tennessee Williams. As he was leaving, he paused, patted my arm, and said, “Hang in there. All it takes is time and work.” That advice has stayed with me ever since.
