Echoes of the Lowcountry Past
History is not just dates and battles. It is people, choices, and moments that quietly shape generations. In Lifeline by Arnette Adoboli, readers are taken back to Beaufort, South Carolina during one of the most defining periods in American history. Against the backdrop of the Civil War and Reconstruction, the story explores plantation life, cultural traditions, and the resilience of those forced to live within a broken system.
At the heart of Lifeline is a powerful journey that begins with an unconventional birth and unfolds into a life that refuses to accept limitation. Through short stories rich in West African influence and Southern heritage, Arnette Adoboli captures the flavor of the Sea Islands while reflecting on courage, identity, and transformation.
