Kravitz And Sons

A Story of Hope, Choices, and Second Chances

From its modest beginnings in 1949, when postwar publishers gathered in Frankfurt to rebuild and share new ideas, the Frankfurter Buchmesse has grown into the world’s most important international book fair. Over the decades, it has transformed from a regional gathering of German publishers into a global platform where stories are launched, partnerships are forged, and the future of publishing is shaped. That journey of steady growth, vision, and innovation is what makes the fair so influential today.

Now celebrating its 77th year, the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025 is set to host more than 7,500 exhibitors from across the globe. It offers far more than book displays: visitors can explore groundbreaking titles, attend insightful discussions with leading authors and thinkers, witness the latest in publishing technology, and discover how books continue to evolve across media and cultures. It’s not just a fair — it’s a creative crossroads where tradition meets tomorrow.

Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025

Adding to the excitement, the Philippines takes center stage as the Guest of Honour for 2025, presenting the theme “The Imagination Peoples the Air” — a powerful nod to the nation’s storytelling spirit inspired by José Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere. With over a hundred Filipino authors, artists, and events bringing the country’s rich literary heritage and contemporary voices to Frankfurt, this year’s fair celebrates not only books but also the vibrant diversity of global storytelling.

Amid this extraordinary celebration of ideas and imagination, Kravitz & Sons is proud to see Altruism: A Novel showcased on this prestigious global stage — a gripping urban tale that tests the boundaries of compassion, morality, and human endurance.

A Voice Rooted in Purpose and Humanity

David O. Otebele brings to his writing the depth of lived experience and the empathy of a social worker who has seen both the struggles and the triumphs of modern life. Based in Seattle, Otebele works with the State of Washington Social Welfare Administration, where his commitment to helping others mirrors the themes that flow through his novel.

With a B.A. in Public Administration and an M.A. in Political Science, Otebele combines analytical insight with emotional storytelling. Outside of his professional life, he’s an active member of his community—refereeing local soccer leagues, exercising, and finding inspiration in the resilience of the people around him. His writing reflects this energy, capturing the grit of city life and the power of hope even in the darkest corners of society.

Survival and Selflessness in the City That Never Sleeps

Set in the turbulent streets of 1990s New York, Altruism explores the lives of young people caught between temptation and transformation. Amid crime, drugs, and broken dreams, Otebele’s characters cling to education, family, and the radical idea that compassion—true altruism—can be their way out.

The novel balances raw realism with moral insight. It asks what it really means to be good in a world that often rewards the opposite. Through heartbreak, violence, and redemption, readers witness the delicate balance between personal ambition and the moral duty to others. Altruism is not just a story about survival—it’s a meditation on how selflessness can heal both the individual and the community.

Why It Belongs on the Global Stage

At the 77th Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, Altruism stands as a timely reflection of the human spirit’s ability to rise above chaos. Its urban setting may be distinctly American, but its message—choosing empathy in a world driven by self-interest—resonates universally.

David O. Otebele’s novel reminds us that literature is not only about escape; it’s about reflection and renewal. His story of struggle and compassion embodies the very essence of the Buchmesse’s mission: to share voices that challenge, inspire, and connect us all.
