HOW THE CONSIGNMENT WORKS?
- A limited quantity of books will be stocked for an initial period of three months.
- Books are sold on consignment, meaning payment is made only after a sale.
- The author receives 60% of the retail price for each book sold.
- If the book sells well, additional copies may be consigned.
- If sales are low, the consigner (author/publisher) will be notified to retrieve unsold copies.
- If books are not picked up or there is no demand within 30 days of notification, they may be donated or given away to interested readers.
Independent bookstores have long championed diverse voices and unique storytelling. Many are open to collaborating with self-published authors and nontraditional publishers through consignment agreements, providing authors with the opportunity to have their books placed on physical store shelves. For authors, seeing their book displayed in a bookstore is a significant and sought-after achievement.
While self-publishing has flourished in the digital landscape, gaining placement in traditional brick-and-mortar bookstores remains a notable challenge. Bookstores carefully consider factors such as returnability, content quality, and sales potential before deciding to stock a title.
Your book will be introduced to 20-30 independent bookstores across the United States, with a strong emphasis on your local region or state, over the course of a 90-day campaign. Throughout this period, you will receive two detailed progress reports, leading to a final summary that highlights the bookstores willing to test stock your book. The trial phase typically lasts 2–3 weeks, providing valuable insight into the potential for long-term placement.
