Consultants, by nature, are a questioning bunch. Unlike engineers, who will tell you how to make a watch when you ask them the time, consultants will take your watch and then tell you the time. Many answers have bubbled up from experience and research as this book was put together. God has offered many alternatives that were far better than the traditional ways of helping people. With all the money spent on efforts to eradicate poverty and revitalize communities, one might think that the problem is being solved. Nothing could be farther than the truth.
As a young boy living in Mississippi, I had a newspaper route and worked at my dad’s retail store. I learned a lot about business and people during those times. As I grew older, I became a part of several civic organizations, having a leadership role in most of them.
After graduating from college with a business degree I received my commission in the U.S. Air Force. After four years I completed my service with the rank of Captain. A few years later, I received a Master of Business Administration.
The rest of my working life has been vacillating between working for other businesses and being my own boss. Most of it has to do with sales, but my entrepreneurial ventures have been as CEO. At this point, I spend most of my time as a consultant to businesses. In order to make a difference, I founded Luke 16 Corp so that progress can be made. This is especially about helping create stronger communities by launching social entrepreneurs. Most mission-type activities miss the mark when it comes to helping make a difference in these areas. The three books I have written comprise the Dignity Trilogy and provide a guidebook to helping communities to thrive, not just survive.
